Club History
Beauceron Club UK was “born” on 8 February 2009. 15 Beauceron enthusiasts met on a cold snowy day at The Cheeserollers pub, Shurdington, Gloucestershire and agreed to set up the Club. On that day our Committee was formed, officers elected and Rules and Constitution agreed on.
The Club applied for Kennel Club registration and on 16 February 2010 Beauceron Club UK became the officially recognised Breed Club for the UK. Our membership is steadily increasing and if you are interested in joining Beauceron Club UK you will find a Membership application form in the Download section of this website.
In 2013 Beauceron Club UK applied to the Kennel Club for the Beauceron breed to be fully recognised in the UK and to be transferred from the Working Group to the Pastoral Group. The Kennel Club accepted our application and with effect from 1st July 2014 the breed was transferred from the Import Register to the Breed Register and was moved to the Pastoral Group. Beauceron breed classes were scheduled at a Championship show for the first time at Welsh Kennel Club August 2014. There was an entry of 21 for breed judge Jeff Luscott.
Beauceron Club UK has held a number of Fun Dog Shows raising money for Battersea Dogs and Cats home, Great Western Air Ambulance and our own Fund for any future Beaucerons that need to be rescued. Sadly a few unwanted Beaucerons have crossed our path and Beauceron Club UK has been able to help find these dogs a new home.
You can meet a team of enthusiastic owners and Beaucerons at Discover Dogs which is organised by the Kennel Club twice a year. The first is held in conjunction with Crufts at the NEC Birmingham in March and the second at ExCel London in October.
We have a Breed Archive which is a collection of the history of the Beauceron since the breed has been in the UK and includes pedigrees and health test results amongst other things. We have held 2 Breed seminars to help raise the profile of the Beauceron amongst interested people and potential Show Judges, which were very popular. We have been able to produce occasional Newsletters to share news and to enlighten the reader on various hobbies, sports and other things our members are involved in.
Beauceron Club UK has worked with the Kennel Club to help protect the Beauceron breed for the future, most notably banning the mating of Harlequin to Harlequin Beaucerons, and updating the Requirements and Recommendations of the Assured Breeder Scheme to reflect the Club’s own Rules regarding health tests and breeding requirements.
If you are interested in owning a Beauceron please do not hesitate to get in touch with us. We are here to answer any questions you may have and to offer advice and support.
We are open to your ideas and suggestions as to how we can support the Beauceron breed in the UK so please do not hesitate to contact one of our Committee members to talk to us. We look forward to seeing you soon!
