NWPB Critiques 2018

National Working & Pastoral Breeds Championship Show – 14thJuly 2018

Thank you to the Committee for inviting me to judge Beaucerons at your show and to the exhibitors for the lovely entry, sporting atmosphere and acceptance of the results.

It was a hot and sunny day which unfortunately brought out some lazy movement by some of the exhibits. All exhibits had correct double dew claws.

Impressive black and tan male, tan markings a little light, condition excellent. He has a good head and ear set used well giving an alert expression. Dark well placed eyes, straight front with good width and depth to forechest and with excellent angulation throughout. Good length and spring to ribs, withers run smoothly into solid topline to correct croup and tail set and length. Lovely width to stifle. It was a pleasure to watch this boy move and he ate up the ground with his superb, effortless reach and powerful back action. He didn’t place a foot wrong all day. Best Dog and BOB

Up to size, strong harlequin male with much the same qualities as the 1stplaced dog. He has a strong masculine head but eyes are a little light. Well placed ears giving a lovely expression. Correctly angulated throughout and a pleasing overall shape. Excellent tail carriage and correct length. He paced on the move.

Well-presented harlequin male with lovely overall shape and correct angulation. Good width and depth to forechest. Clean withers to strong topline, croup to correct tail set and length. Masculine head with correct ear placement and dark eye. Good tan markings, length and spring to ribs. Lovely sweep to stifle and strong well placed hocks. I have seen this dog move better but today he was pacing. Reserve Best Dog.

2nd: PREDDY Mr M Overhill Total Eclipse
Well boned black & tan male with rich tan markings. Dark eye but ears not being used today. Not the width/depth of chest or strength of topline as 1stplaced, also a little straight in upper arm so did not have the reach in movement of the principal winners. Good muscle tone, correct length of tail and strong parallel hocks.

YB (2 Entries) Abs: 1

Strong harlequin female who was determined to give her handler a hard time! Feminine head with good earset, rich tan, can stand wide in front. Excellent length and spring of ribs, superb width of stifle, well-muscled, strong croup to correct set and length of tail. Movement erratic.

2 lovely bitches in this class and much of the same comments apply.

1st: THROWER Mr D M & Mrs C M Pebbleena's May Lebatts

Strong harlequin bitch with straight front and good tan markings. Eyes a little light, good ear carriage used well giving a lovely expression, balanced head proportions. Width and depth to chest with long and well sprung ribs.  Excellent angulation throughout. Lovely sweep of stifle, strong topline to correct croup and well set tail of correct length. Tended to pace on the move.

2nd: MARLAND Mrs S Jazzmine Argentee Du Mont Des Croisettes
Another strong harlequin bitch. Did not use her ears so well, eye is a little darker and tan a little lighter. She also has a strong front, excellent spring of ribs and width of stifle. Although she started out moving well she then fell into pacing on the move.

Class 367 OB (2 Entries) Abs: 1
1st: PHELPS Mrs T Pebbleena's Marjoran

Mature and well-built harlequin bitch in muscular condition. Feminine head with dark eye and excellent ear carriage/use giving a lovely alert expression. Straight front with good width and depth to forechest. Strong and well laid back ribs with good spring. Clean withers to strong topline, croup and correct tail set and length. Very nice overall picture. Free and effortless movement. The final challenge was a close call and the male just edged it on movement. Best Bitch.
